New Jersey casinos busy writing checks
In August, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released its latest casino jackpot report.
The bottom line is Atlantic City casinos paid out more money to its players through jackpots in 2018 then it did in all of 2017.
Nearly $22 million in slots and online jackpots of more than $50,000 or more went back to casino goers through Aug. 15, 2018. No doubt the latest seven-figure payout will encourage players to keep spinning in an attempt to cash in.
In fact, $3 million in jackpots were paid out just in the 30-day period ending Aug. 15 alone. The $2.5 million jackpot ensures September’s figure will eclipse August’s.
Until now, there was only one seven-figure payday in the Garden State so far during 2018. The biggest jackpot before the latest win was a $1.67 million jackpot. A player at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City won it on a 25-cent Wheel of Fortune Pink Diamond machine.
Not only can Borgata now claim to have written the most substantial check to date, it is also the casino that wrote the most checks.
Of the 224 jackpots reported, 56 of them came from the Borgata’s casino floor. As of Aug. 15, Borgata players won $5.197 million in jackpots.
Big wins are not limited to slot machines and casino floors
NJ online casinos awarded 55 of the 224 total jackpots. There are no seven-figure paydays, but there is a mid-six-figure jackpot in the report.
A lucky player virtually sitting at The Gods of Gold online slot machine at Harrah’s online casino took home $687,785. PlayMGM awarded eight jackpots, the most of all online casinos. Borgata awarded the second most with four.
Winning a jackpot isn’t limited to slot machines, either. Now, sports bettors can take their shot at winning a jackpot, too.
Last week, PlaySugarHouse.com launched the SugarHouse sportsbook, making it the first casino-sportsbook combination in New Jersey.
The launch included a new feature, the Jackpot Parlay. Designed for the new sports bettor in mind, it gives someone a shot at turning a small bet into a big win while rooting on their favorite teams.
Mattias Stetz, COO of Rush Street Interactive, the operator of PlaySugarHouse.com, talked to PlayNJ.com about the new feature:

“It takes some elements from a slot machine and adds a sports twist to it. The games are randomly generated, and if you want different games you can click the ‘re-pick’ button, and the randomizers spit out a new selection, very much like spinning a slot machine. You can even hold on to one or two games and re-pick the rest, just like in a video poker game.”
With football season set to kick off this weekend, it is no stretch to expect more gamblers online and on casino floors as they watch their favorite team kick off.
