Description

The Jack Russell Terrier is a very spirited, fearless, assertive, intelligent, and active breed. It is also athletic, sturdy, and tough. The Jack Russell Terrier is bred to hunt, dig, track, and roam.

The head is well balanced and in proportion to the body with moderate ear width. The eyes are almond shaped and dark in color. Their neck is muscular, of good length, and gradually widening at the shoulders. The Jack Russell’s coat can be smooth, rough, or broken coated (broken meaning it is a combination of both the smooth and rough coat with longer hair mixed in with the short) and comes in white with tan, black, or brown markings. The Jack Russell Terrier is not necessarily the best breed choice for an inexperienced or first-time dog owner; give them an inch and they’ll take a mile — they are wonderful, yet willful and determined to complete whatever is on their agenda. A fence is a must, and they are also able climbers and high jumpers, so supervise your Jack Russell Terrier.

Disposition

This breed is not for those who live a sedentary lifestyle. They are a loving and very loyal breed of dog, hopelessly devoted to their family but they require a lot of time and attention. They are best with older children who respect their boundaries because they do not tolerate teasing from kids. Be sure to socialize your Jack Russell puppy at an early age.
